Reflexology
One beautiful definition of reflexology:
Reflexology is a natural, non-invasive therapy embracing the whole concept of holistic treatment. The ears, hands, and feet are microcosms of the body. By stimulating the nerve endings in the ears, hands and feet we send messages along the nerve pathways to the various organs. Thus, we stimulate and communicate with the nerve network of the body. This helps to balance the energies within the body. We are not diagnosing or treating a specific condition, we are treating an existing imbalance in the energy of the body. There are few other therapies that treat the whole body in such a gentle, non-invasive manner which have no adverse side-effects. We simply encourage the body to heal itself. This is nature’s gift to mankind.

Touch is so simple, gentle and yet very powerful. Touch is the first sense to be developed (an embryo less than 6 weeks old can respond to touch), has an intimate association with the nervous system (with a large nuber of sensory fibers from the skin entering the spinal cord) and can be a way to ease pain and reconnect us to the joy of life.
The largest most sensitive organ of the body is the skin. The skin, next to the brain, is the most important of our organ systems. Scientists are now beginning to understand the ability of touch to help us heal physical and emotional pain.
Reflexology is part of the healing arts that utilize touch to promote and enhance physical and mental well being. Reflexology received regularly or over a period of time assist promoting better health, decrease stress, promote better sleep and better digestion. (Ashley Montague Touching first published in 1971.)
Reflexology accesses the entire body through the feet, hands, ears, and head and affects the body on all levels of well being. Reflexology releases tension, stimulates the lymphatic system to detox, bring awareness to energy blockages in the body and stimulates the body’s own natural healing facilities. Bringing the person into the present moment is very similar to the effects of mediation in that the client can tune into awareness of themselves, regain sense of control over their bodies.
